Rosary’s and Chaplets

The Holy Rosary

Make the sign of the Cross:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Recite the Apostle’s Creed:

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day He rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Holy Catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.

Say (1) Our Father, (3) Hail Mary’s for the virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity; and then (1) Glory Be:

Our Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, On earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Hail Mary, Full of Grace, The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of death.

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.

Each of the five Decades in the Rosary is divided into three parts. Meditate and recite for each Decade (Mystery):

1 “Our Father”
10 “Hail Mary’s” and
1 “Glory Be”

After each Mystery say the Fatima Prayer:

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fire of hell, lead all souls to heaven, especially those who are in most need of Thy mercy.

(All together this makes up one decade.)

After reciting the five mysteries, recite the “Hail, Holy Queen”:

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile show us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

The Seven Joys of Our Lady:

First Joy of Mary: The Annunciation “behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it done to me according to your word.” Luke 1:26-33

Immaculate Virgin Mary, greeted by the angel, by your humble “yes”, keep us in continuous union with Jesus.

Second Joy of Mary: The Visitation “Rising up, Mary went into the hill country and saluted her cousin Elizabeth.” Luke 1:39-47

Virgin Mary who went to visit St. Elizabeth, to sanctify John the Baptist, make those who bring Jesus to people assiduous in mercy.

Third Joy of Mary: The Nativity “She brought fourth her first born son…and laid him in a manger.” Luke 2:4-7

O Virgin Mary, in your poverty beside the manger help us to obtain the riches of Franciscan poverty, through which we receive Jesus and we can say: “My God and my All”.

Fourth joy of Mary: Adoration of the Magi “Following the star the Magi found Jesus, adored him and presented gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” Matt 2:9-11

O Virgin Mary, who showed Jesus to the three Magi, always increase our faith so that we will be able to pass it on to those we meet.

Fifth Joy of Mary: Finding Jesus in the Temple “Not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem seeking him.” Luke 2:41-51

O Virgin Mary, so happy to have found your Son, pray for us to keep faithfully the grace of never losing Jesus and to help everyone to find Him.

Sixth Joy of Mary: The Resurrection “The Lord is not here…He is risen.” Luke 24:1-6

O Virgin Mary , comforted by the risen Jesus, grant that we may have the desire of the Spirit that comforts us with the knowledge that Jesus lives in us and in other people.

Seventh Joy of Mary: The Crowning of Our Lady “a woman clothed with the Sun… upon her head a crown of twelve stars.” Rev 12:1-6

O Virgin Mary, elevated into glory, draw us to you through faithful knowledge of your Divine Son and through desire of the Kingdom of God.

The Seven Sorrows of Our Lady (Pray during Lent):

First Sorrow of Mary: The prophecy of Simeon.
“When Mary and Joseph present the infant Jesus in the temple, Simeon predicts that a “sword”(of sorrow) will pierce her soul. Luke 2: 25-35.

Second Sorrow of Mary: The flight into Egypt
“When King Herod orders the death of all male children age two or younger, Mary and Joseph flee to Egypt with the infant Jesus.” Matt 2:13-15.

Third Sorrow of Mary: The Child Jesus Lost in the Temple
“Mary and Joseph search for the child Jesus for three days, finding him at last in the temple.” Luke 2; 41-50.

Fourth Sorrow of Mary: Mary meets Jesus carrying the cross
“Mary shares Jesus’ suffering as He carries the cross through the streets of Jerusalem.” Luke 23: 27-29.

Fifth Sorrow of Mary: Mary at the foot of the cross.
“Mary witnesses the crucifixion and death of Jesus.” John 19: 25-30.

Sixth Sorrow of Mary: Mary receives the body of Jesus.
“Jesus is taken down from the cross and his body is placed in Mary’s arms.” Psalm 130.

Seventh Sorrow of Mary: Mary witnesses the burial of Jesus.
“The body of Jesus is laid in the tomb and Mary awaits the Resurrection.” Luke 23: 50-56.

Chaplet of Divine Mercy

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Our Father:
Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Hail Mary:
Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

The Apostle’s Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified; died, and was buried. He descended into Hell; the third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, He sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

The Eternal Father:
Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

On the Ten Small Beads of Each Decade:
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Repeat for the remaining decades:
Saying the “Eternal Father” (6) on the “Our Father” bead and then 10 “For the sake of His sorrowful Passion” (7) on the following “Hail Mary” beads.

Conclude with Holy God (Repeat three times):
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Closing Prayer:
Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion–inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.
